InterContinental Parramatta to become Greater Western Sydney's home of luxury travel

The world's largest luxury hotel brand, InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, is set to arrive in Greater Western Sydney with the opening of InterContinental Parramatta, in partnership with owner Holdmark Property Group.

Scheduled to open in 2025, the impressive, new-build InterContinental Parramatta will be part of a vibrant mixed-use development that also includes offices and a ground floor retail precinct.  The building itself will be one of the most exciting high-rises to grace the city's skyline, with the owners in the process of running an architectural competition to find a winning design.

The state-of-the-art hotel will deliver on the brand's signature InterContinental Life concept – where  glamour and the exhilaration of fascinating places is mixed with international know-how and local cultural wisdom. It will feature 200 guestrooms, a restaurant and rooftop bar, Club Lounge, pool, gym, wellness centre and more than 900sqm of meeting space. With IHG's responsible business approach at its heart, it will be built to the highest green-rating standard.

While Parramatta may not spring immediately to mind as a luxury destination, it's regarded as the main commercial centre for the broader Greater Western Sydney Region and is Sydney's newest CBD, as well as one of Australia's fastest growing cities. With significant infrastructure projects in place, it's clear that the self-styled capital of Sydney's west is a highly sought-after destination. With the hotel located at the junction of two of Parramatta's most bustling streets – Church and Macquarie Street – it will be perfectly poised to attract luxury leisure and business travellers to the city.

Every year, Tripadvisor combs through the millions of reviews from its global community of travelers to surface the hotels that people raved about most, and this year is no different. Even during the pandemic, travelers continued to discover, book, and give feedback on places to stay, both near and far. Despite significant disruption to the hospitality industry in 2020, hotels around the world found new ways to dazzle guests and deliver top-of-the-line service.

To see all Travelers' Choice Best of the Best Hotel winners for 2021, across all categories, visit:

New year, new categories

In addition to the much-loved categories of hotels and B&Bs that Tripadvisor typically awards, an exciting change for 2021 includes the introduction of four brand-new categories, taking the total to 10. New this year are the Hottest New Hotels (properties that opened in July 2019 or later), Top Rooftop Hotels, Safari Stays and Picture-Perfect Hotels (properties with gorgeous photos on Tripadvisor).

The No. 1 hotel in the United States for 2021 is Mint House at 70 Pine in New York City. Located inside one of Lower Manhattan's art deco masterpieces, the hotel offers apartment-style living with suites that it boasts are “three times the space of traditional New York hotel rooms.” As its visitors say, “Whether you are local or a tourist, you will love staying here.” Globally, the No. 1 hotel in the world for 2021 is Hotel Colline de France in Gramado, Brazil, known for its personalized service inspired by French elegance.

The Inchcolm by Ovolo, Brisbane's Best Kept Secret

Perched above Brisbane’s CBD, the mysterious and captivating Neo-Georgian 50 all-suite hotel that is The Inchcolm by Ovolo, beckons future guests to discover the tantalising secrets that lie within its walls. Previously Ovolo Inchcolm, the hotel has undergone an evolution in the public spaces and guest experience to reflect its unique and classic boutique character of the hotel – this marks Ovolo’s first By Ovolo Hotel in Australia.

By Ovolo Collective hotels are each unique and special; the more guests explore, the more they will find. The timeless design of The Inchcolm reflects this philosophy, dripping in characteristic heritage finishes, echoing a bygone era so vividly brought back to life, that subtle undertones of the roaring 20’s can almost be heard throughout the hotel, giving the atmosphere an air of rhapsody.

The Inchcolm is an alluring sanctuary to explore and the perfect hide-away for those who wish to escape. It is a world away from reality full of tiny treasures, eccentricities and eclectic art pieces that will satisfy even the most curious of curiosities.

The styling and design draw inspiration from the property’s rich architectural heritage, dating back to the 1920s, embodied in the Cabinet of Curiosity, curated by Stylist Anna Roberts. Here, guests will find an oddball mix of books, objects and artefacts paying homage to the building’s history, while uniquely themed interiors alongside curated art from famed artists such as Mr Brainwash tell their own stories as guests make their way through the hotel.

Ovolo Group Managing Director ANZ, Dave Baswal says a staycay or vaycay at The Inchcolm is the ideal way to retreat, rendezvous, revel, or all of the above.

The Travel Corporation Announces New Climate Action Plan to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2030

As members of the global travel industry, The Travel Corporation (TTC) recognizes its role and responsibility in creating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through its trips and operations. The need for both travellers and businesses to take action to address GHG emissions and climate change becomes clearer and more urgent every day. And so, in celebration of Earth Day 2021, TTC and its family of brands are announcing a five-step Climate Action Plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, and support their continued efforts to achieve the organization's sustainability goals. To further support the transition to a low-carbon future, TTC and its TreadRight Foundation are investing in two nature-based carbon removal solutions, Project Vesta and GreenWave. TreadRight has also launched a new Impact Hub in an effort to be transparent as to progress made at TTC and its family of brands towards the groups' 11 sustainability goals, while also providing tips to travellers on how they can help.

Climate change is directly linked to an increase in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the atmosphere, of which globally a reported 51 billion tons of GHG emissions are emitted annually. The Travel Corporation's Climate Action Plan addresses Goals #1 and #2 of its five-year sustainability strategy, How We Tread Right, which target the carbon footprint of its business. Respectively, the goals commit to becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and to sourcing 50 per cent of electricity from renewable sources across the organization by 2025. This includes TTC's 20+ offices, 18 Red Carnation Hotels, 13 Uniworld ships, six accommodations/facilities, 500+ vehicles and more than 1,500 itineraries operated worldwide by its 40 award-winning brands including ContikiTrafalgarInsight Vacations and Uniworld.

To share its sustainability strategy, efforts and impact, as well as to guide consumers and travellers on addressing their own carbon footprint, TTC has launched a new sustainability Impact Hub. Learn more at
