The Hotel Britomart Leaps Onto Global Hot List
The Hotel Britomart has been named one of the best new hotels in the world, landing a place on Conde Nast Traveler's prestigious 2021 Hot List.
The 25th annual edition of the Hot List picks the best of the year's global hotel openings. The Hotel Britomart is the only New Zealand property on the list, and one of only two from Australasia.
With 99 guest rooms and five luxurious Landing Suites, The Hotel Britomart opened in October 2020 at the heart of downtown waterfront Auckland's Britomart precinct.
The Hotel Britomart is New Zealand designed, developed and owned. It was designed by Auckland's Cheshire Architects and developed by Cooper and Company, the team behind the rejuvenation of the Britomart neighbourhood since 2003. The Hotel Britomart project also involved the refurbishment of three adjacent heritage buildings, and the creation of a new plant-filled, pedestrian-friendly laneway connecting Galway and Customs Streets.
In a New Zealand first, the hotel was designed and built to 5 Green Star standards established by the NZ Green Building Council. This required focus on the sustainable credentials of everything from paint finishes to taps and light fixtures. 80% of construction waste was recycled, and the hotel's annual carbon emissions are expected to the 50% lower than a building designed to the minimum standards of the New Zealand building code.
One thing that wasn't anticipated when the hotel was under construction was the Covid-19 pandemic, which delayed opening by two months.
SOVA “The Social Hotel” Readies for Summertime Debut in Downtown Dallas
Look forward to a new type of hotel, fresh to the shores of America, and opening its doors in Downtown Dallas this May. Travel is frequently synonymous with adventure and SOVA Hotels has the singular goal of providing guests with more stories than anywhere else. This boutique hotel incorporates elements from all over the world and ties them together to offer a sense of community and comfort. SOVA guests stay in micro-rooms, and in exchange for smaller spaces receive luxurious elements sourced from around the world at a noticeably lower rate. Guests check in at the lively SOVA bar and are given recommendations and daily activities by the local “Travel Guides” on staff.
Developed by 27-year-old twin brothers, Blake Shirk and Brandon Shirk, SOVA was born out of the pair's passion for traveling with the need to also save money. Noticing a gap in the U.S. for such a hotel concept, they decided to start their own project, creating high-end, minimalist rooms amongst carefully designed, inviting group spaces. Every aspect inside SOVA tells a story, which is exactly how the Shirks envision each guest's experience to be.
“What stories do you have from your life?” Asked the Shirks. “We would wager that many of the stories you share from past years are from your travel experiences. We want to help weave those stories and ensure that you have memorable ones with new friends.”
The SOVA team chose a location with walkable proximity to dozens of lively bars and restaurants, downtown hotspots, and the Dallas Farmers Market. Each room combines features from 50 diverse countries, offering a luxurious haven to lay down at night before taking on another day of adventure. SOVA opens to the public in late May and will be located at 2105 Commerce Street.

A hidden gem that unabashedly celebrates the bamboo bar culture of the 1960's and 70's, White Sands Hotel provides a sunny oasis amongst Honolulu's urban setting. Managed by Springboard Hospitality, a leading hospitality management company with more than 35 independent and branded properties throughout the U.S., White Sands Hotel once again claims its place as one of Waikiki's best kept secrets, a tropical illusion that invites all to drop in and tune out.
From the moment guests enter through its bamboo lined entry, White Sands Hotel feels like stepping back in time to an era of playful hospitality, when Hawaii's Polynesian culture influences were felt around the world. The hotel's 94 guestrooms and suites, starting at $179/night, are centered around a courtyard pool with a cascading waterfall, grotto-style hot tub and lush greenery. The reimagination embodies vintage Hawaii vibes and offers guests an irreverent take on what it was like to work and play in Hawaii in during the Jet Age. Designed for today's thoroughly modern traveler, White Sands Hotel is now the most energy efficient hotel in Waikiki, generating almost all its energy from solar power.
From the team behind the beloved Chinatown hotspot, Fête, the heart of the hotel is Hey Day, an open-air restaurant and bar led by Chef Robynne Maii that will serve farm-to-table, new continental cuisine with a Hawaiian twist, an homage to Maii's local heritage. The restaurant will work with farmers and purveyors in Oahu to serve authentically local cuisine. The centerpiece of Hey Day is a large, circular poolside bar with hanging chairs, that welcomes guests to swing, sip and swap stories as they enjoy stiff drinks crafted by several of Waikiki's most popular mixologists.
